Why China Love China -- Yang Dexin from Vietnam

Hey everyone, I'm Yang Dexin, a master's student in International Education of Chinese at Renmin University of China. I have a lot of hobbies, but my favorite ones are playing guitar and shooting videos. I hope to use my camera to capture the beauty of the world and share it with others. I also hope to use my videos to spread positive messages and brighten people's days.

When I'm not in class, I spend most of my free time in the library, reading and expanding my knowledge. This is my way of disciplining myself and also reflects my love for traditional Chinese culture. I also have my own YouTube channel where I share my experiences in learning Chinese and my life as a foreign student in China.

I hope that my videos will help people to appreciate the richness and depth of Chinese culture, and to feel the thousand-year heritage of Chinese civilization.

Dexin, have a seat. Long time no see. How have you been?

I've been really busy with my studies lately, but I'm also really happy. I came to China in November last year, and every day has been an amazing experience. I teach Chinese on Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok, and I've already taught nearly 1,000 students. They all love Chinese culture and are really passionate about learning Chinese.

What levels are your students at? What do you think is the hardest part for them when learning Chinese? Did you have the same issues when you were learning Chinese?

You are right, we have met the same issue. I mainly teach basic and intermediate levels of Chinese. In the beginning, one of the biggest challenges my students have is memorizing Chinese characters. I used to have the same problem myself. I would think I had learned a character, only to forget it a week later. That's why I've been working on finding more effective ways to teach Chinese characters.

My main focus now is to help my students understand the true origins of Chinese characters and why they are written the way they are, as well as the logic behind their composition. Once they understand this, they will be able to remember the characters much more easily. They will also find learning Chinese characters to be more interesting, and they will be amazed by the ingenuity of the Chinese people in creating such a rich and complex writing system. They’ll find Chinese culture is truly broad and profound.

What kind of Vietnamese coffee would you recommend?

I'd personally recommend the Egg Coffee. It's very distinctive. But we can also ask the barista for their recommendations. What do you think?

You started learning Chinese language and culture in Vietnam. What similarities and differences have you found between what you learned in Vietnam and what you have experienced in China since coming here?

Coming to China has been a truly eye-opening experience for me. I had always heard about the rich and profound culture of China, but it wasn't until I came here and experienced it for myself that I truly understood its beauty. China has a 5,000-year history that is full of wisdom, and the Chinese people are some of the friendliest and most welcoming people I've ever met.
