U.S. Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns said he hopes to see fresh cooperation and connections between the two countries, specifically in cultural and sports areas, during his visit in Shanghai.

Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Burns on Thursday. Gong reflected on his recent visit to the U.S. last month, highlighting the significance of dialogue and exchanges in enhancing mutual understanding and deepening cooperation across various sectors between the two countries.

This year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China and the United States, with Shanghai playing a pivotal role as a bridge for friendship and cooperation between the two nations, Gong said, saying he hopes for further collaboration to invigorate bilateral exchanges and contribute to turning the "San Francisco Vision" into reality.

The mayor also called for boosting the high-level collaboration of universities and research institutions between the two countries.
